The store based business model is past its prime and online and aggregator based models are the future of Retail. Retailers will need to take steps to ensure costs are just as variable as sales.

Pure brick and mortar retailers will cease to exist and a hybrid will evolve. We also foresee new retail businesses going the online only route like Amazon.

Expect to see process improvements in supply chain, inventory management, fulfillment and customer service. There will be re-evaluation of existing processes, optimizing and increasing staff in some of these departments trained to handle the online sales growth.
